This is a shrine to Aussie music, an experience of the artists and tracks and concerts and memories we love and cherish This is an ode to what we love about music.

They say that it’s never too early for a greatest hits album. This one, the story and experience of Australian music history, was a little late coming; our national identity is wrapped up in a raw, rocking and powerful sound, an album pounded out by some of the most amazing artists to have ever walked the planet. The Australian Music Vault is a celebration of all of this, a sensory experience of the people, sounds and objects that mapped our musical history.

At the core of the Australian Music Vault is a digital light sculpture - the beating heart of the experience - stringing together the many objects, bands, genres and tracks together. As you wander around the light sculpture feeds in different music, and the NFC card (a ‘mixtape’) you carry allows you to log your visit to each object from the vault, crafting a customised playlist for later that is curated by your own journey through music history.

Grumpy Sailor operates on lands belonging to the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, and the Boon Wurrung and Woiwurrung (Wurundjeri) peoples of the Kulin nation.

We acknowledge these traditional owners and we pay our respects to leaders past, present and emerging.
